While it’s always fun to explore distant landscapes, soak up foreign cultures and immerse yourself in the history of a faraway land, sometimes all you want to do is let your hair down and dance the night away! Arguably, enjoying a few beers in Bavaria or sipping sangria in Spain are a cultural experience in themselves! Whether you prefer a singalong in a buzzing German beer hall, or dancing to the hottest DJs until the early hours, there’s a destination for you. Here’s our pick of some of the best cities around the world to let your hair down and party!

London

Known the world over for its incredible selection of traditional English pubs, London’s nightlife continues to lead the way across the world. Start your evening with a riverside tipple in one of the numerous traditional pubs that line the river Thames. Once the sun is down, take a stroll into the city’s famous West End to rub shoulders with the rich and famous. Live music lover? Camden’s thriving scene is home to some of the best up-and-coming acts from around the world. Alternatively, don your finest chequered and spend the evening sipping a creative cocktail in an uber-trendy east London hipster-hangout!

Berlin

When East London stopped being cool enough for the trend-setters, they upped roots and made Berlin their new home! From the cool café-bars of Neukoeln to the infamous Berghain super-club, Berlin is a hotbed of art, music and – you guessed it – nightlife! While some of Berlin’s most famous clubs have ridiculously stringent door policies that leave hundreds of would-be revellers disappointed on a daily basis, the real charm of the Berlin party scene is best experienced in the small, underground bars that have popped up all over the city in recent years! The Alternative Berlin Pub crawl is a great way to meet people, and discover bars you never even knew existed…

Bangkok

Ah, Bangkok. Possibly the only city in the world to give Las Vegas a run for its money as the ultimate ‘sin city’. Backpacker base-camp is without a doubt the Khao Sanh Road, lined with brash bars selling cheap beer, buckets of local whisky and pretty much anything else the heart may desire. A stroll down the red-light strip of Soi Cowboy is an experience not quickly forgotten, while the night markets of Patpong offer all manner of goods – and services! Those seeking a slightly more upmarket night out tend to flock to the Sukhumvit Road or Siam where the selection of bars and clubs would give any major western city a run for its money!

Prague

A long-term stag-party favourite, Prague is famed for its cheap beer and somewhat liberal approach to recreational drugs. Scratch beneath the surface, however, and you will quickly realise that the city is home to a wonderful array of bars, clubs and restaurants with buckets of warm, Czech hospitality. Those in-the-know avoid the main strip of the Old Town in favour of the more understated bars a little off the beaten track. U zlatého Tygra – “The Golden Tiger” – is a great example of a local drinking hole, serving only draught Pilsner Urquell! Be warned – they don’t take kindly to groups of tourists, but if you can charm your way into a spot at one of the communal tables you’ll be in for a treat!

Rio de Janiero

When most people think of Rio, they think of sun, sea and beach parties, with vast crowds samba-ing through the night. And they’re not wrong! From the golden sands of the Copacabana to the vast bars and clubs of the city’s southern districts, there is something for everyone. And if that wasn’t enough, Carnival comes round every year, taking the nightlife to a whole new level. Just remember though, that Rio is as famous for its street crime ad it is for its epic parties – and it’s a reputation that is equally well deserved!

Amsterdam

Canals, coffee shops and a vast red-light district are pretty much the first things that spring to mind when you think of Europe’s party capital! A charming city by day, the mood suddenly changes when the sun goes down and the streets are filled with the sounds of pulsating music and raucous fun. The area around Dam square is where the majority of the most famous establishments can be found, although it’s well worth exploring slightly further afield for a more authentic Amsterdam experience!

New Orleans

Home of the annual Mardi Gras festivities, it’s no surprise that New Orleans knows how to throw a party all year round! The French Quarter is the very heart of the action, packed with bars, clubs and live music venues oozing good Cajun vibes. Famous venues such as Pat O’Brien’s, the Penthouse Club, and Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop are staples on most visitor’s agenda, although an increasing move towards the underground scene is keeping the city’s soul alive and people coming back for more!

Las Vegas

Quite literally a city that never sleeps, Vegas is synonymous with wild parties, gambling and all-around general debauchery. From the moment you set foot in one of the cavernous casinos and sink your first cut-price tequila, you can expect to be drawn into a whole other world. No clocks, no windows and buildings designed to keep you in until you drop! If you do find your way out onto the famous strip, expect to be enticed into one of the limousines offering free rides to one of the many nightclubs that keep the party going all night long!

Seoul

Perhaps a surprise addition to this list for some, Seoul has well and truly earned its place amongst the greats! Start your night out in this feel-good city at one of the many Korean BBQ joints over a sumptuous plate of freshly grilled pork and a mug of crisp beer. As the night winds on, head into the glam Gangnam district to dance the night away to the sound of K-Pop with lashings of beer and soju! Best of all, a night out won’t break the bank, and you’ll be partying in one of the world’s safest cities where people are high on nothing but life!

Hong Kong

Another seemingly unlikely destination, this small hanging off the south of China is a former British colony, and they haven’t forgotten how to let their hair down! Kick your night off with some legendary Cantonese street food at the Temple Street Night Market before sipping a sundowner in one of Kowloon’s famous rooftop bars. From there, it’s onto Hong Kong Island and straight up to the mid-level hangout that is Lan Kwai Fong, or LKF for short! Don’t expect any special treatment as a foreigner, and certainly don’t expect cheap drinks anywhere, but a good time is almost guaranteed!
